There are no Windows 8 slates available in the market yet. Microsoft is still making the final touches on the Windows 8 operating system, which is optimized for touch operations, making it a great platform for touch based slate computers and Windows 8 tablets. Many PC manufacturers including Samsung are working on Windows 8 slates. Samsung recently confirmed that will be releasing Windows 8 based slates by mid of year 2012. What is a Slate ?
A Slate looks like a tablet which has electronics integrated touch screen unit and it lacks a hardware keyboard. One can use the external keyboards which are available in the market for slate tablets. iPad as an example for this type of devices.
What are Windows Slates ?
Slates which were built to Microsoft’s specification and running a licensed version of Microsoft Windows operating system are known an Windows Slates. Initially, these Windows Slates were targeted to address business needs like note-taking, organizing etc.
In other way, we can define a Windows Slate as a “Slate which uses Windows operating system as the main operating system to perform the tasks” are called as Windows Slates. Windows based Slates are able to run all the software which were on the Windows. It supports software like Adobe, MS Office, etc.
For some people, a Slate is a slimmed down tablet without a dedicated physical keyboard and with no other extra components. For some others, it is less in weight which can be used as a portable media player.
